NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 12 - DAY 2- 27/01 11.02 KM

Righto!
So longest mid week to date.
Pace not too bad, legs a bit sore (massaged today). But kept going.
Pace was similar to Sunday but intervals were totally different
So over 11 km I did
3.75km/250m x2
with a 3 km home.
Quads sore, but wanted to keep going. This is where I think training may have turned around. I had previously had no desire to do this kind of distance mid week. Today mentally in it. That is nearly 4 hours of running in 48 hours. Best thing I did? Took my Garmin off and strapped it to my fuelbelt so I wasn't always looking.
Tomorrow going for a hat trick again with pilates, intervals and yoga.... and maybe a bit of public foam rolling for fun.
Purple shoes.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 7- LONG RUN 16KM

Well, not the 5 am start but up at 7:30 and out the door knowing I could be running in the sun.
16 km on the schedule and did it on the following intervals.
It's not as fast as I want. I want about 10 minutes off that time. But I think if I up the intervals to all 200/800 or those as warm up and work off 100/900 for a majority???

300/700 x4
200/800 x11
300/700 x1

NYC MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 6- REST 24/01

Working today, rest before long run. Will set alarm for 5 ish again and HOPE to get up. Got to use the thoughts of running in the sun to motivate me... not a fan, think of how nice it is to run in the cool.
Did spend 3 hours doing a half marathon play list on the new iPod.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 5 - REST despite best efforts

Headed to the gym. Well. Couldn't get in could I. Now it's 24 hours, you need a fob to get in after 2PM on a FRIDAY!!!.
So had to head home. Didn't even get out for a walk.
Work tomorrow and long run on Sunday with 4 days off.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 5- REST

So this week proving to be much better.
My head is getting in the right space.
Last nights intervals on the treddy got me over my hatred in a way. Going to try and get there tomorrow again for a few kms.
Ordered new shoes!!!

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 4- 4.18km WALK

Thursday after work and out anyway to walk out yesterday's total blitz on fitness and to shift some of the soreness from foam rolling.
Brooks Adrenaline
Nothing amazing but just a nice walk along the coast.
Sunset photo below, taken on iPhone with one of the filters.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 3- HAT TRICK with 4.07 kms

So picture a bit blurry BUT....
Today, pilates, foam rolling, intervals AND yoga.
Pilates, I've got it changed up with some heavier springs, some harder movements.
Still not completing in 40 mins but getting faster.
Decided to head down to gym to foam roll as legs are still horrendously sore from Saturday.
Foam rolling was fabulous.
Intervals, did that on 6.5/8.5 and let the treadmill control it.
Yoga, sweaty sweaty sweaty.
Purple shoes for the intervals.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 2- REST

Tuesday rest day before tomorrow's double barrel.
Hopefully this week will be much better than the last 2 weeks.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 11 - DAY 1- 4.2 KM 19/01/15

And Monday and we are out- not an amazing time but done on intervals of 300/700.

WEDNESDAY- YOGA AND PILATES
THURDAY- REST
FRIDAY - REST
SATURDAY- LONG RUN 16.1KM SPLIT INTO 2 SESSIONS
SUNDAY- REST

Total Mileage: 16.1km

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 7- REST BUT- WHAT HAVE I DONE????

So today was rest as Mum and I got up at 4:30 (see I can get up early) and did the Marion car boot sale.
However, look what we have here- an entry to the NYCM lottery for this year.
Drawn March 3.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 6- 16.1KM

So, it was actually only 15 km today, but tested the limits today.
For the first time ever, I split the run into 2.
I went out far too late (9am) after just really wanting a sleep in. First mistake and should have gone out even an hour earlier. Lesson learnt. Went towards Glenelg and up to the Broadway kiosk with the plan to come back and run to the Henley hotel and back to get the distance. That was also my second mistake. Should have kept going past the kiosk to the surf club for the distance. Reason? As I got back towards home,  the heat was up (only 20 something but sun had some strength in it and I had no hat!!), so went home with the plan to finish when the sun got lower.
Interestingly, similar pace on the second run but got my legs were dead. It was then I vowed not to split up the runs, and to get up early.
I've done it before, I just need to do it again.
Done on 300/700 intervals both sessions

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 5- REST 16/01

And again... long run planned for tomorrow. Temp not too bad. Let's see if I can get up early enough.
16 km on the schedule.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 4- REST 15/01

And continuing..... week 2 of crap all training.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 3- DOUBLE BARREL 14/01

So it's pilates and yoga, the only real constant in my training. Mentally the yoga is tough. It starts at 7 and I am not home until well after 8 pm.
I love it and the class does go faster now as I am getting fitter with it, and also stronger.
Running? who knows when. 16 km on the schedule for the weekend.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 2- REST 13/01

And continuing. Tomorrow at least I will do the usual double barrel to get some exercise.
Week from hell.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 10 - DAY 1- REST 12 JAN

So, we begin the week as we finished last week, with barely any action.
Mentally my head is not in this at the moment. I need to get over my hatred of the treadmill so I can get in some sessions when it gets too hot.
I am sure its gonna happen, I don't want to leave my run too late.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - WRAP UP

So one of my poorest weeks since training began. Distracted by anything and everything. Hot weather making outside training impossible. Treadmill hatred at an all-time high.

MONDAY- REST
TUESDAY- 5.1 km
WEDNESDAY- Pilate and Yoga
THURSDAY- REST
FRIDAY- REST
SATURDAY- REST
SUNDAY- 5.1 km (BB style fartlek)

Total Mileage: 10.2 km
Weight- not measured.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 7-5.1 KM

So as expected didn't go to plan. Long run became almost no run, but still got in some kms.
Not a bad time, but not an amazing time. Was going to be a walk but turned into a fartlek session nothing fancy just decided that I needed to do something other than walk.
So managed to fight some head demons which made me happy.
300/700 intervals

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 6- NO CHANCE!

Saturday- with conference and ball, another non starter of a day. Knackered in the afternoon, so napped just so I could make it through the evening until about 11 pm.
On a happy note I did make it to the final table in the blackjack tourney but gave my spot to someone else and went home. Alarm set for 5 am but surely it will be put on snooze.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 5- REST

Same as yesterday. Battling work, tiredness and anything that I can find to get in my way.
It will come together. Just need to get in the right mental space. This needs to happen sooner rather than later.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 4- REST

Designated rest. Hot days, work beckons and knackered.
Hoping for a decent weekend run, but could be difficult with the work ball on Saturday night which will denote a late finish, and with Sunday's temps being quite high, an early wake up is required but will be virtually impossible.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 3- DOUBLE BARREL

The usual double barrel today with Pilates and first yoga back since the Christmas break.
Pilates getting easier. Yoga still making me sweat like a donkey.
#dasherlife

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 2- 5.1 KM WALK

Ridiculously hot, but have got to just get out, so tonight a walk that seems to have taken almost forever. It was 36.1 degrees when I was out and that was at 7:30pm.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 9 - DAY 1- REST

After yesterday's long run, today was designated rest day to give the legs a chance to recover. It was such a great run. Tomorrow, out for something, not sure what but will be out there.

4 WEEKS OF POSTS TO FOLLOW

I've been quite behind with my posts, with an attempt to ramp up training (not amazing at that), so about 4 weeks of posts are to follow as I catch up.
Enjoy, and I hope if you are following you get something out of it.
Less than 7 weeks until race day now.

Sunday 4 January 2015

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 - WRAP UP

A busy high mileage week with a successful long run.
Still getting used to the Brooks and almost certain will be getting some new Foundations.
Started the week with a Dasher catch up with Louise, James and Anthea.
Finished with a  fab 14 km run, my longest since NYC 2013.

MONDAY-7.96KM LOFTY
TUESDAY-REST
WEDNESDAY-9.04KM WALK
THURSDAY-5.1KM WALK
FRIDAY-REST
SATURDAY- REST
SUNDAY- 14km

TOTAL MILEAGE: 36.1KM - Biggest week yet.
WEIGHT: 77.6KGS

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 DAY 7 -LONG RUN 14 KMS

After cutting last weeks run short due to getting up late after social shenanigans and getting caught in the heat, it was a 5:00 am scheduled wakeup, retimed to 5:15 when the alarm went off.
Out by 5:40 am and off I went.
To get the distance and be able to use the Grange Run, I went south for 1.8kms and then back to get the extra 3kms (250m is the run from house to Esplanade, so a bit of early morning maths required to work out how far past the Grange Jetty I needed to go). Nice and cool out with a slight headwind. First couple of kms really slow and then I sped up.
Used a 700/300 interval the entire way. Got faster and faster with last 7 kms having the runs in the early to mid 7min/kms which was great.
Last km was 600/200/400 for the sprint home as I overshot the mark in the early morning maths.
Wore the Purple Asics.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 DAY 6 -REST PRE LONG RUN

Another stinker today with 39 degrees, so home for the carb load and an early night with a 5:00 am wake up in the morning.
Training through the summer- killer.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 DAY 5 -REST

Far too hot today to even walk after work. Was still mid 30's when I got in.
The air was cooking your skin when outside.
Tomorrow will be more of the same, but as day before long run, will save legs as back up to 14 ams on Sunday, after cutting last weeks run to 10 due to heat.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 DAY 4- NEW YEARS DAY WALK 5 KM

And without fail, out for the New Year, just a 5 km walk to Henley Jetty but still out there.
The hot weather is coming with 42 for Friday, 39 for Saturday. Will be cooler on Sunday for the long run but still warrants an early wake up.
Brooks shoes.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 DAY 3 -9 KM WALK TO RID MY LEGS OF LOFTY!

New Year's Eve and my legs are caning. Decided to just walk to get the soreness out from the massage and Lofty from Monday. Down to Grange Jetty and back.
Wore the Brooks. Still not a massive fan.
Was just nice to get out there today, no pressure and it did help the legs.

NYC HALF MARATHON TRAINING WEEK 8 DAY 2- MASSAGE

Very sore from Mt Lofty. Have had this massage booked in to use up last of allowance on private health. Had someone different today and she pummelled me. Elbows/arms and all sorts trying to iron out the kinks. Legs are sore to the touch. Walk tomorrow.
